We have emailed cllr Lewis Dagnall (cabinet member for Transport) and Tom Finnegan-Smith (Head of Strategic Transport and Infrastructure) about the
proposed Penistone Road development which is adjacent to the Penistone Road cycle/footpath.
“I am contacting you on behalf of CycleSheffield about the proposed Penistone Road development (planning reference 19/00037/FUL).
We welcome the regeneration of this area of Sheffield. It offers a fantastic opportunity to benefit the population through improved provision for walking and cycling. These improvements are required to help mitigate the extra traffic this development will generate.
Please could you discuss our points below with the Transport Planners for inclusion in the planning conditions?
- Please ensure that this development does not degrade the existing shared cycling and walking path along Penistone Road. For example, the path should remain continuous, at least as wide as it currently is and no extra street furniture/clutter should be added.
- Upgrades to this walking and cycling facility should be delivered and funded as part of the development. For example, the crossing over Herries Road South could be signalised, and it could be part of a network of cycle paths to Parkwood Springs, Hillsborough, and Sheffield city centre.
- Parking on the cycle/footpath is a problem on matchday when SWFC are playing at home. As the land for proposed development is currently used as fan parking this problem will worsen if the development goes ahead. The development will need to include improved car parking restrictions for this area.
We’re excited about this project, and look forward to hearing how our concerns and ideas above will be addressed.
Sincerely,
Dexter Johnstone
