Looking Forward to 2014!

Happy New Year!!

A lot to look forward to this year, folks.  Tour de France!!!  and we are pleased to let you know that SkyRides will be starting in Sheffield in summer 2014.  We know the target is to put on 50 local rides.  We have been invited to talk with British Cycling about the programme and the recruitment of ride leaders this month.  So more details on the email list and at our meetings

January.  The next meeting of the national Space for Cycling campaign is in Sheffield on Saturday 25 January.  Cycle campaign groups from across the country will be sending delegates.  More details at our next meeting Mon 13 Jan 2014

The CTC is holding its Local Liaison Volunteers/Right to Ride reps meeting in Sheffield the day before as some people will be attending both meetings.

We’ll be putting on a Sheffield FridayNightRide around our fair city on Fri 24 Jan and may get out to Darnall to look at the only example of where cycling infrastructure was ‘integrated’ with housing on the Greenland estate.

Do you have one night’s accommodation to offer?

Some delegates to the above meetings may like the offer of accommodation for the night of Fri 24 Jan.  For example, I am offering 1 dble rm, not en-suite,  B&B.  If you are willing to put somebody up that evening please let me know.  Get in touch with me at mick.nott@googlemail.com

February.  The Council’s Scrutiny Committee should be publishing its report on cycling in Sheffield.  There will be much campaigning work to follow up with this; can Sheffield City Council get its act together and see that cycling links its ambitions for clean air, healthier and happier citizens, easing traffic congestion, making travel safer for all, and having quality public spaces, as well as its ambitions for promoting the city as a centre for green tourism?

Start to plan Bike Week, finalise our budget for next financial year, and continue with Space for Cycling campaign work.

It will be the Cycle Sheffield AGM during June with our annual report and deciding our constitution, eg at what age should a member be entitled to vote? 16? 18? – and a buffet!

August. No meeting – just get on with cycling and campaigning.

September. CycleNation conference and so on – too far ahead to think about details!
