CycleSheffield have fought two campaigns recently that have both received news and some success.
We reported on this in the last newsletter. In summary, we fought the removal of bus lanes on Ecclesall Rd and the plans for the removal of bus lanes between Rustlings Rd and Hunters Bar roundabout have been put on hold. New plans must be developed in conjunction with cyclists and must provide adequate alternatives for cyclists end.
This story got a balanced report in the Sheffield Telegraph
and was followed up along with other Sheffield stories about Sheffield CycleBoost and the TdF in Sheffield in the national cycling newsblog road.cc

CycleSheffield has also fought a campaign to get the recently-opened access gates at Virgin Active on the Sheaf Valley Cycle Route closed and we reported on this in the last newsletter. Since then we have learned that SCC has written to Virgin Active’s local manager and the company’s HQ requesting they close the gates. The Star ran got the story from our newsblog too and the next day the gates have been closed; and we hope are closed all the time

Press releases and newsblogs are all part of these campaigns along with the emails, meetings, monitoring and representations that go on.
These two stories show the victories we get and the compromises we have to accept.
However small each struggle it all starts to add up
Come to the next meeting Monday 4 November and join in!
