Campaign priorities
These are our overall prorities for 2010-11, reflected in our Local Transport Plan submission:-
Live local, shop local – cycle parking at all local shopping centres.(i.e. we shouldn’t have to ask for cycle parking on a piecemeal basis & then rely on the largesse of the Community Assemblies – anywhere there’s a shop there should be a properly installed, functional bike stand)
Darnall – Meadowhead cycle route offering an alternative to the Outer Ring Road. (particularly important if the speed limit on Bochum Parkway goes up to 50)
Default 20mph speed limits on all residential streets and in the City Centre.
Completion of Sheffield – Chesterfield route. (There is more likelihood of this now that Nth Derbyshire has been defined as part of the Sheffield City region – see p.8)
Improvements to Stocksbridge – Sheffield corridor (Upper Don Valley)
Better integration between cycling and public transport, e.g. bikes carried on off-peak tram services.
Local issues we are also concerned with are as follows:-
Parking in cycle lanes, for example Clarkehouse Rd where drivers park after 9a.m. waiting for the bike lane to close at 9:30.
Castle St where taxi drivers stop in the cycle lane while waiting for a space on the taxi rank (this also occurs on Fornham St near the station.)
