Dear cycle sheffield,

During the bike week festival I signed up and payed for a membership. At the time I was told I would be kept up to date and informed of upcoming events through a mailing list. I have yet to receive any emails about this, and it was only by chance I was able to find this website. Am I or am I not a member? I would have expected in the very least an acknowledgment email.

Hi there. Saw your post on Baslow Road, lights and speed limit. I helped form a group called SPACE (Sheffield and Peak Against City Encroachment) to oppose the lights and CPRE did too. As you rightly point out there was no need really to move the turning circle. We argued that the lights should go at 3 council meetings. They were put there because they said it had to be 30mph due to buses turning. We argued that they had got their figures wrong and it should be 40mph. We were successful in getting a decision to remove the lights and put the limit to 40mph. They went back on their decision to remove the lights immediately and as far as I know the decision is now to put the limit to 40mph and restore the 30mph sign at beginning of Totley. They say they are going to keep the lights for another year while they monitor the situation. We are all v concerned about speeding in Totley (and put a full paper to COuncil on this too) but 30mph out of Totley on this stretch is a bit mad - no-one sticks to it and you get tailgated and overtaken if you do. 40mph seems reasonable. Unless you know something we don't, 40mph will be the limit here, not 60mph. That WOULD be mad! You can read about it on my blog at address above.
