  • Where? Sheffield University – Firth Court – S10 2TN.

  • When was it? Saturday 15th October 2011.
  • Theme: “Cycle Campaigning and Localism – Threats and Opportunities”
  • What was it all about? The Coalition Governments Localism policies present a challenge for organisations set up for national campaigning. Local groups are ideally placed to meet the government’s agenda, but don’t necessarily have the resources to campaign effectively. How can the national organisations – CTC, Cyclenation – support these groups effectively? At this conference we will reveal our strategies for stronger support for local groups.   • Who for? – Everyone wishing to promote frequent and safe Cycling and also representatives from organisations promoting Cycling. eg: CTC, CycleNation, Cycle Trainers, Local Authorities, Politicians, Sustrans etc.
  • Format:

Speakers on relevant National issues and campaigning locally.
Workshops on National issues and Local Initiatives.
Stalls/Posters: Local and regional Initiatives.
Keynote speakers  include: Danny Dorling, Professor of Human Geography in the University of Sheffield:“ Social Mobility and Access – Cycling’s contribution?”

  •  Accompanying events – all delegates welcome:

Post conference Ride and 3-course vegetarian/vegan Meal. (ride at 5 – Meal 7:30- 10:00 (bring your own booze)

Choice of Sunday Rides:

Tram-assisted Technical Tour of Sheffield Cycle Facilities (9:45 for 10:00 departure  until 14:00 approx)

Sheffield CTC Ride to High Hoyland (40 miles)
