A Sustrans Ranger Statement
Sustrans Sheffield
http://sustranssheffield.blogspot.com/2010/07/sustrans-ranger-statement.html
Sustrans Rangers in Sheffield will no longer undertake litter picking and low-level maintenance work on the National Cycle Network in Sheffield. The reasons for this are as follows:The responsibility for general maintenance work on the Network lies with Sheffield City Council, either Streetforce or Parks and Countryside.
The responsibility for taking care of the Cycle Network lies with users of the trail.
The responsibility for reporting defects on the National Cycle Network lies with the users of the trail. If the community believes that the Network is worth having in Sheffield, it needs to take ownership of it.
The idea of the Big Society is pants. We have no intention of becoming scapegoats for the failings of government.
We will continue to facilitate events that other organisations may wish to organise if they are of benefit to the Network, The Standard Charge for facilitating an event on the Network is £500 per day.
We will continue to report defects on the Network to the appropriate authorities, and we will continue to ensure that the network is correctly signed. However, we will not take any responsibility for any mishap that may occur to any person while they are using the network for any reason.
