The Cycle Point opens “quietly” in early August, with an official opening in late August, Sadly, the two cycle point schemes proposed for Sheffield haven’t got off the ground – Stagecoach claim that the one at the station would require a major power upgrade (how about a few solar panels on the roof?) while Hammersons want too much rent for us to use one of the many empty shop units that they currently own in the city centre.

After the preview of the Cycle Point,  members of  the northern rail cycle forum took a ride along NCN66 (last picture), the towpath of the Leeds-Liverpool canal that will get you to Skipton, or (when complete) will link through Bradford to the Spen Valley Greenway and on to the Calder Valley. Surfaces were rough in parts but are steadily being improved, especially in the inner city section which is popular with students and commuters.
